Clarity measures the presence of inclusions (internal flaws) and blemishes (external flaws) formed during the diamond’s natural creation. Most are microscopic and don’t affect a diamond’s beauty to the naked eye.
Clarity grades include:
- FL (Flawless): No inclusions or blemishes visible under 10x magnification
- IF (Internally Flawless): No internal inclusions; only external blemishes
- VVS1–VVS2 (Very, Very Slightly Included): Inclusions extremely hard to detect
- VS1–VS2 (Very Slightly Included): Minor inclusions visible under magnification
- SI1–SI2 (Slightly Included): Inclusions may be visible to the naked eye
- I1–I3 (Included): Obvious inclusions that may affect brilliance or durability
